The first movement of this Sonata begins with a fast, jaunty melody, then moves to a slower,
ragtime-style section, before coming back to the original theme. The second movement, Andante, is a melancholy ballad, with the
flute and piano taking turns with the melody. The Presto opens with a rippling "raindrop" effect on the piano, the flute
floating on top with the main theme. A jazzy second theme is introduced later, and the movement ends as it began, with "raindrops"
in the piano.
This is fun, melodic, happy music, and would not be out of place in any lighter classical programme.
